What is Maryland's Upscale Singles?

Maryland's Upscale Singles is a social club for single professionals over 30 that offers an innovative alternative to the traditional "singles scene." We provide you with the opportunity to attend dinners, cocktail parties, social gatherings, sporting events, theater, concerts, travel and more. You will get to know other single professionals, make new friends, meet prospective dates, network and share exceptional experiences in a comfortable, friendly and upscale setting. We plan social, dining and travel events and all you have to do is show up and have a great time!

Why should I subscribe to the online Member Directory?

The Maryland's Upscale Singles online member directory has nearly 600 members! It is a private directory and access is only available with a username and password. When you become part of our exclusive directory you will be able to access member photos, email addresses, hobbies, interests and city they live in. Why do people attend events?

Maryland's Upscale Singles events are ideal social settings for making new friends, networking and dating. Singles attend events and enjoy many different types of experiences they likely wouldn't have tried alone. 

May I attend events at other Upscale Singles chapters?

Yes, you may attend on a space-available basis.

Can I attend events by myself?   

Absolutely...most people do. This is your opportunity to meet other single professionals and we make it easy for you. You will be greeted at the door and we'll help you meet others by introducing you to the other guests.

When do events occur?   

Each month we offer several events during the week and on weekends to accommodate the different schedules of our many members.

How does a typical event unfold?   

The first 45-60 minutes of a dining event are set aside for our "mix and mingle" time. When you arrive, you will be greeted, given a nametag and introduced to other members. This is a time to meet the other singles and network. When it's time for dinner seating, we try to group you with other singles that have similar interests. We have many fun ways of doing our seating assignments and you'll always have a chance to get to know many people during the evening.

Our cocktail parties and wine parties are mix and mingle and you will have an opportunity to meet everyone there, if that is your desire. Theater and sporting events are similar to dining events where we have a mix and mingle time before the performance. Our other events, such as cooking classes and outdoor activities, offer many opportunities to get to know like-minded singles.

Are hors d'oeuvres included in the cost of a cocktail party?

The cost of attending a cocktail party covers your admission to the event. Lite hors d'oeuvres are provided at our cocktail parties, but they are complimentary and are offered so that you can enjoy a small plate to sample the cuisine of the restaurant. They are not a substitute for dinner. If you do arrive at a cocktail party hungry, I suggest you patronize the venue and order dinner from their menu. On many occasions, I’ve seen couples pair up and small groups get together after our cocktail parties to stay and enjoy dinner and there have been many relationships that have come out of those dinners...food for thought.

Why aren't alcoholic beverages included in the price of events?   

Alcoholic beverages are not included in the price so that guests have the option of choosing their preferred beverage. At special events like Martini Parties or Wine Parties - alcohol is part of the all-inclusive price and periodically, wine will be served and included in the price of an event. Our "upcoming events" link describes each event and what is included for that particular event. It will be easy to find events that are just right for you!

What is the age range?

Members are 30 years and over.

How many events may I attend each month?

You may attend as many events as you'd like on a space-available basis. Certain events may be subject to limited availability by gender. 

How do I make reservations?

If you have access to the internet, the easiest way to make a reservation is to click on our "Event Registration" link. You may also fax or mail your reservation or give us a call...we're happy to assist you over the telephone! Once your reservations are made and paid for, all you have to do is show up and we do the rest!

How do I pay for an event?

All events must be paid when the reservation is made. We accept MasterCard or VISA, personal checks, cash or money orders.

What is the reservation cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made at least one week before an event to receive full *credit toward a future event. If cancellation is made within three days prior to an event, and you are able to find someone to take your place, you will receive full credit toward a future event. If you paid by credit card, your credit card can be credited for the amount of payment, less a $5 cancellation fee. If we are unable to fill your seat or if you are a no-show, no refund is given. If you cancel more than three events within a one-month period, you will be assessed a $25 service charge.

Credits are kept on your Upscale Singles account to be used for future events. Credits not used within 90 days are subject to forfeiture.

What happens if there is inclement weather on the day of an event?

If the venue closes due to inclement weather, we will reschedule for a later date. If you are unable to attend on the rescheduled date, you will receive full credit to be used toward a future event. If the venue is going to remain open, the event will not be cancelled and therefore, no refunds will be given. Notification of a cancelled event will be posted on our website and there will be a recorded message on our telephone, as well. An effort will be made to notify you, but it is your responsibility to check the website or call us for information.

How does the waiting list work?

Once we have reached the maximum number of reservations, we will create a waiting list and will contact you if there are cancellations.

Is this a matchmaking or dating service?

No. We provide a safe and congenial setting for singles to meet for friendship, dating or networking. While we are neither matchmakers nor a dating service, love connections do happen, and some of them have resulted in marriage! 

What is the dress code for events?

"Business Casual" is the typical dress for most evening events; jackets for gentleman are preferred. Some functions are more casual and others are more formal. The appropriate attire for each event will be included in the event description.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

When making the reservation, if you are a vegetarian or have allergies to certain foods, we are able to accommodate those special situations, but you must note these requests on each reservation form you submit to us. We want you to have an enjoyable experience.
